One Time Registration (OTR): what it is and how to complete it

Published on 1 min read

Some recruitment bodies, such as UPSC, ask candidates to complete a One Time Registration (OTR) before applying for any exam. Your basic details are saved once, and you use them for every application afterwards.

How it usually works

  • Create your profile with your name, date of birth, mobile number and email.
  • Upload your photograph and signature.
  • Verify your mobile number and email with the codes you receive.
  • Save your registration number and keep it safe for future applications.

Before applying, keep these ready as soft copies (scans or clear photos):

  • Photograph
  • Signature
  • Class 10 certificate (for name and date of birth)
  • ID proof

Enter your details exactly as in your Class 10 certificate. A mismatch can cause trouble later and is hard to correct.

Dates, fees and eligibility change from year to year. Always read the latest official notification before you apply, and keep a copy of your confirmation page.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I have to register again every year?

Usually not: the idea of a one-time registration is that you reuse it. Check the rules of the body you are applying to.

I forgot my registration details.

Use the recover or forgot option on the official website with your registered mobile or email.
