College admission documents: arrange these before counselling day

Published on 1 min read

On admission day, colleges check original documents and ask for copies. If something is missing you can lose time or even the seat. Prepare early with this checklist.

Before applying, keep these ready as soft copies (scans or clear photos):

  • Admit card and rank or scorecard
  • Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets
  • Transfer or migration certificate (if asked)
  • Category or PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Domicile or residence proof (if applicable)
  • Passport size photographs
  • ID proof
  • Fee payment receipts

Tips

  • Make 2 or 3 photocopies of every document and keep the originals in a folder.
  • Keep soft copies on your phone and in DigiLocker.
  • Check that the name and date of birth are the same on every document.

Dates, fees and eligibility change from year to year. Always read the latest official notification before you apply, and keep a copy of your confirmation page.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Get it corrected from the issuing office early, and keep proof of the correction request with you.

Are soft copies enough?

Colleges usually check originals. Soft copies help you apply and prepare, but carry the originals.
